Data Recovered Hours After Server was Stolen

BOULDER, COLORADO November 3, 2010. At 2:00 yesterday morning, there was a break-in at a local Colorado business. The cables were cut and their main File and Email server had been stolen. Irreplaceable data was missing.

That same morning, tech support at arielMIS, the IT support company serving the burgled business, noticed the client’s server was not checking in. arielMIS tech support immediately headed over to their client’s offices and on the way received the call about the break in.

“Because of our businessCARE™ system and our Image based backup system, we were able to tell the police the exact time that the server stopped reporting to our systems, which was about the time the server’s cables were cut,” said Bob McCool, an arielMIS technical expert.

Upon further review it was confirmed that a backup through arielMIS had run just 4 hours before the file server was taken. The result was that the company’s system was restored to a new server and was up and running later that day with virtually no data loss and minimal business disruption. arielMIS was also able to setup alerts in case the system came back on line to help locate the stolen server. Because of their full auditing services, arielMIS can provide accurate information of the theft to the insurance company to expedite their client’s claim.

Prior to arielMIS services being in place, the company’s backup had been unreliable and would not have provided a means for them to recover from this situation.

McCool explains that “most companies that initially contact arielMIS for technical business solutions often have no backup or have only a file based backup, which would certainly be helpful, but would not allow for such a quick turnaround in getting them back up and running and back to business as usual.”
